The Occasional Diva

THE OCCASIONAL DIVA'S DIVA RULE: NO ONE UNDER 50 QUALIFIES FOR DIVA STATUS. Forty-five and over MAY squeak by (Similar to being a Red Hatter, but without the costume). However, no woman is too young to start training for Diva status.

QUALITIES OF A DIVA-

A diva is self assured and intelligent. The kind of self assurance and itelligence that comes from experiencing life for at least 50 years. A diva can chat seriously with anyone on a number of socially consequential topics as easily as she can be light and humorous. A good sense of humor is a sign of intelligence.

A diva has to be stylin' and sassy. That doesn't mean dressy like your daughter, but younger than your mother would have at this age. High heels are good. Make up is a must. Trendy - but appropriate - hair styles. And NO GRAY HAIR. Highlights are your Red Hat.

Finally, and most importantly, a diva knows how to pamper herself. Regular pedicures, facials and massages are essential. Find a spa and become their best customer. (http://www.enjoylspa.com/) Regular Girls Nights are therapeutic. Learn to enjoy good wine and lemon drop martinis. (see the What's Cookin' tag for a great Lemon-drop Martini recipe, or go to your nearest Houlihan's [http://www.houlihans.com/])

Every woman needs to play the diva (goddess) occasionally. We are the nurturers, the caretakers, the go- to- people when a job needs to be done. As we mature and become wiser, we no longer look to our husbands, sons or the signifcant male in our lives for recognition. We turn instead to our female friends or to ourselves for validation.

Take pride in your looks. Take pride in your intelligence. Take pride in yourself. The best way to do that is to take time for yourself.
